Slow Food Desert Cities and Hidden Harvest built their first outdoor garden for the Agua Caliente Elementary School in Cathedral City in 2009. Not only has the garden provided the children a basis for garden based learning, it has brought the community together to learn about growing their own food and healthy eating. In June, 2010 Dr. Chris Flores did a Healthy Families Workshop.
Also in June Riverside County conducted a workshop on composting. The children could touch and feel the squiggly worms that thrive in compost.
